The city council is responsible for the delivery of a vast range of services. Most such as, for example, building control, crematorian services and trading standards tick over in the background seldom provoking much controversy. Others are the focus for never ending political battles and complaints from residents and pressure groups.

In this section of City Politics we will examine some of the Big Issues that cause most controversy and where the votes of councilors really count - or not, as the case might be.
