Just A Sideshow?
Liberal
Democrats have been contenders for power all around the city - in Adur,
in Lewes and in Eastbourne but never in the city. They currently hold
three seats in a 54 seat council. Nonetheless they are active; they have
a professional website (rolled out nationally no doubt but with lots
of local content) and in a hung council their three votes can often
count.
With both Ming Campbell and David Cameron repositioning their respective parties and moving closer to each other, the Lib Dems locally could conceivably join a coalition with either of the main parties.
But they might well prefer the greater freedom of opposition.
Could they win any more seats? The two-seat Regency ward which has one Lib Dem and one Labour councillor must be the ward to watch.
