Whatever Happened to Regional Government?

Not so long ago there was a lot of talk in some Labour government circles about regional government and how it was going to be rolled out in England, starting in the North East and working its way south. Others talked about the city regions. Take a city and its hinterland and give it its own structure of local government.

All has gone quiet. Why?
