Customised Mini in 2006 Run |
It was a rainy day in 2006! |
2006 saw the 21st annual London to Brighton Mini Run organised by the London & Surrey Mini Owners Club. It is one of the biggest events along Madeira Drive with parked minis stretching all the way from the Sealife Centre to Blackrock. To mark its 21st birthday 2,121 official places on the event were issued, instead of the usual 2,100. An official entrant on the event is able to park along Madeira Drive and gets the 'I was there' badge, but anyone can. of course, drive down to Brighton and park in one of the city's car parks, then join the fun since the Drive is always open to pedestrians.
The Mini Run is open to all and every conceivable type of mini, and it is one of the attractions of the day to see just how many variants and customised minis there are.
In addition, the Mini Run is also an enormous market. Madeira Drive is full of market stalls selling everything and anything you could want for your mini.
Weather-wise, of course, you must take your chances. The 2005 event had a beautiful sunny day, whereas 2006 was wet and windy - though that didn't stop hardy mini fans.
