Victoria Road: Car Showroom

Where do you go to find a car showroom in the city today? While there are a few small showrooms dotted around here and there, the pressure from the city's planners is sqeezing them out of the centre, as high density residential development is the order of the day. Surprisingly, Victoria Road in Portslade which was once home to a number of engineering firms and to the Central Workshops of Southdown Motor Services, when it was part of the now-defunct National Bus Company, is now an oasis of large car showrooms, where you can find BMW, Mazda, Lexus, Volvo, Mini, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen. This transformation of the road has taken place over a number of years, but now looks complete: all the old industrial space has gone.
