Unemployment in the city remains stubbornly around 3% - fantastic when compared, say, with the national rate of unemployment in France (8.4%) but high when compared with other local authorities in South East England.
Only Hastings in East Sussex, and Shepway and Thanet in Kent have higher rates - 3.8%, 3.2% and 3.6% respectively. Hart in Hampshire has the lowest at 0.6%. Most are between 1 and 2%.
