During the Swinging Sixties which saw Mods and Rockers come to the city in droves and sometimes fall out with each other, two universities took root bringing a young, resident population and a particular sort of youth culture.

David Daiches edited The Idea of a New University, a glowing apologia for the new University of Sussex and its ways of doing things - long since abandoned!
