Question D
Today the city has three Labour MPs. Looked at historically this is
most unusual. Brighton and Hove were bastions for the Conservative
Party throughout most of the twentieth century.
The big breakthrough for Labour came when they won control of the
then Brighton Council back in 1986. Then in 1995 Hove went Labour as
well.
Still, it was an amazing victory when Labour won all three city parliamentary
seats in 1997.
The only other time Labour won a seat was in 1964 in the Kemp Town
constituency. The man who won the seat held it for Labour until 1970.
What was his name?
